The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the Philippine Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology (PhilAAST), successfully conducted the National Workshop on the External Review of PAGTANAW 2050 on December 10, 2025, in Quezon City.
Building on the outputs of the recently completed roundtable discussions, the event gathered key industry leaders once more to refine current collated findings, yielding new and enriched insights and recommendations. Highlights of the discussion include the need for a unified interagency vision for a shared future, alignment of advanced technologies with current capabilities, and institutionalization of foresight and futures thinking within the government.
Led by Academician Fortunato T. de la Peña, the Academician-in-Charge of the update initiative, the event was facilitated by the PhilAAST PAGTANAW 2050 External Review Committee, consisting of Dr. Asuncion B. De Guzman, Independent Researcher and Consultant from Mindanao State University – Naawan Foundation for Science and Technology Development, Inc.; Dr. Eva Maria Cutiongco-De la Paz, former Executive Director of the UP National Institutes of Health; Mr. Demetrio L. Ignacio, Jr., former Undersecretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources; and Engr. Roy Anthony C. Luna, President of AMH Philippines, Inc.
This culminating activity cements the vital role of the industry and the importance of the industry-government-academia collaboration in shaping a prosperous, archipelagic, maritime nation through science, technology, and innovation.
