Academician Mudjekeewis D. Santos, co-chair of the ST&I Foresight Think Tank and member of the Agricultural Sciences Division of NAST PHL, introduced the long-term vision of PAGTANAW 2050 during the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)’s Planning Officers’ Conference 2025 and Foresight Planning Workshop on 17 June 2025 in New Manila, Quezon City.
The five-day activity brought together all planning officers for workshops and capacity-building sessions aimed at shaping DSWD’s future direction. It focused on assessing the current organizational landscape in social protection and enhancing participants’ skills in foresight development and scenario building to support evidence-based planning and strategic budgeting.
Academician Santos presented PAGTANAW 2050, highlighting key trends relevant to the future of social welfare and development. He underscored the importance of implementation, presenting ongoing efforts of the PAGTANAW 2050 program within DOST, and shared how the foresight document has served as a strategic reference in guiding his research and policy work in the fisheries sector.
In attendance were Mr. Edgardo S. Aranjuez II, Assistant Director for Social Development Staff at the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DepDev), and Mr. Bong Villamor, Training and Management Consultant and Professional Coach.
